Great is Thy Faithfulness

21 07 2008

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Refrain

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Refrain

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Refrain

I heard this song on the way back from the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Whispering Pines retreat yesterday. It’s a great song, and reminds me of how gracious and loving God is to me and to those around me. However, it also makes me wonder, why me? People suffer all around the world, while I sit at home on facebook and complain about how hard school is. Of course I can sing and enjoy a song like this. I’m blessed beyond measure, and can’t even comprehend how much God has done or will do for me. I, who am less than nothing, deserve nothing but endless misery, but I’m gifted with eternal life. Not only that, but I’m blessed with friends and family and am able to spend a weekend with people I hope I can call my friends learning about God and having fun.

Why am I blessed like this, and not someone else who is now suffering and deserves it so much more?
